Dozens of dead deer. Using smokeless powder is the only reason to build a muzzleloader using a modern barrel.
1. A light muzzleloader with 95 grains of powder has a surprising amount of recoil. I wasted most of 1 session because I didn't realize the scope had worked loose. 3. I am using 777 fffg powder. There is a distinct difference in the crud ring when using 95 grains powder as opposed to 80.Elk are a different story. I believe the sectioal density of most muzzleloader bullets is too low to penetrate sufficiently at 220 yards (my maximum range). A bullet with a plastic tip will go in like a needle and won't leave a hole big enough to bleed. Most of the bullets I've tried won't penetrate an elk.Sep 23, 2021. #13.
