Regill has a pretty solid baseline with his armor training and high dex, the armors in this game just aren't exactly stellar. I think the main difference is that the Animal Domain Animal would be 4 levels weaker than the standard animal companion without Companion Boon (I think that is the feat name) that races the AC +4 lvls. #2.
